Environmental Facilities Testing for COVID-19

InVivo Biosystems has partnered with Enviral Tech to help you return to lab

We understand the current pandemic is creating a lot of uncertainties and fears. As you grapple with the question of “when is the right time for me to return to my lab?” or, if you already have, “when is the right time for me to invite my employees/grad students/postdocs/etc...back into the lab?”, we want to help you make an informed decision. That is why we have partnered with Enviral Tech in order to offer you environmental testing kits you can use to determine whether your facility is free of SARS-CoV-2. With the quick and repeatable results of environmental testing, you can confidently determine when it is the right time to bring your employees back, and give them peace-of-mind that they are returning to a safe and clean facility.

Who is Enviral Tech?

Enviral Tech directly helps companies and institutions who need to track, investigate, and confirm the level of SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19, in their corporate environment. Enviral Tech solutions help you detect the virus on surfaces or in the air as soon as it is brought into your facility so that you can prevent or take early control of outbreaks. With their complete, repeatable solutions that can be safely and easily implemented out of the box, Enviral Tech kits enable you to provide your employees and customers with peace of mind. Enviral Tech's mission is to help you harness the science to make sure that your facilities are ready to resume operations safely.

What is Environmental Testing?

Scientists, healthcare professionals, and governments have been using environmental sampling to better understand how the virus is transmitted, potential infectivity modes, and monitoring of hygiene/cleaning protocols. Environmental testing has been used since the start of the outbreak in Wuhan, China, where surface samples were collected by wiping sponges or swabs over various surfaces to collect a snapshot of where potential virus transmission points were in a hospital setting. This method has continued to be used to investigate what specific materials and objects are key suspects in viral transmission.

The three main sources of environmental samples are: surface swabs, air samples, and water/waste samples. All environmental sampling methods are intended to detect SARS-CoV-2 independent of the presence of an infected individual. In addition, the sampling swabs used are made specifically for environmental use, not for human testing. This means that Enviral Tech does not disrupt or delay any human testing.

What is “Air Detection”?

Enviral Tech’s Air Filtration kit provides SARS-CoV-2 detection from air samples collected using a simple air intake device with a fitted filter. This kit provides enough filters for 3 independent samplings. Replacement filters can be purchased for additional air sample tests. This kit is extremely useful for determining whether there is air exposure in a closed room.

What is "surface testing"?

It is possible to detect  SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19 by swabbing and analyzing various surfaces in your facility. We recommend that you test a variety of commonly used non-porous surfaces in various spots. The surface testing kit provided by Enviral Tech enables you to test 4 surfaces of your choice. You can order as many kits as necessary for your needs. We recommend that you test surfaces in high traffic areas, such as: door knobs, elevator buttons, faucet handles, bench space, lab equipment, light switches, ventilation exits, soap/sanitizer dispensers, handrails, armrests, phones, toilets, etc.

How does is work?

Once your sample has been received by Enviral Tech, they extract the sample from your swabs or air filters using their highly sensitive and proprietary virus extraction methods that were developed based on proven literature methods. This extract is then tested using validated genetic amplification methods known as real-time PCR (RT-PCR) that have the ability to detect just 20 viral particles per sample.  Such a high sensitivity comes from Enviral Tech’s rigorously tested approach and state-of-the-art instrumentation. This allows you to receive test results in 24 hours or less. The scientists at Enviral Tech use built-in technical controls to ensure that the results are reliable.
